Cynthia is 31 years old and comes from the state of Edo in Nigeria. She studied medical biochemistry at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and was looking for a permanent position when she graduated in 2012. Except for a few casual jobs, however, her search remained unsuccessful.
In April 2019, a friend referred Cynthia to the Nigerian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (NGC) in Benin City. This centre provides the local population and returnees with support in job hunting or starting a business. It is run by the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The centre is part of the "Perspektive Heimat" programme operated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
