Contributing my experiences from Germany to Iraq

My name is Taif. I’m 35 years old and married with two sons. I wanted to find a safe life for my family and to develop our career prospects in Germany. But we weren’t granted a residence permit. Back in Iraq, however, we’ve found what we were looking for. Some start-up assistance enabled me to open a car repair workshop.

Successful return

My name is Zanko and I was born in Erbil in 1986. I left for Germany in 2017, because I wanted to get ahead in my career. During my time there, however, I realised what's really important in life. I returned to Iraq and now run my own car maintenance service.

Kawther works as a receptionist in Iraq

Kawther and her family emigrated to Germany hoping for better perspectives. Since her daughter could not come with them, the family returned to Iraq after a few months. After counselling sessions with the European Technology and Training Centre (ETTC), Kawther participated in training courses and was able to find employment. When she lost her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ETTC helped her find new employment. Today, she works as a receptionist and plans to continue her career in this field.

Raber opens a bakery in Iraq

Raber is 29 years old and lived and worked in Germany for several years before returning to Iraq in 2018. His residence permit was rejected. After receiving guidance from the European Technology and Training Centre (ETTC), he completed a business training course and was eventually able to open his own small bakery, which he plans to expand in the future.
