Andrew from Ghana dreams of starting his own SAP consulting firm in Ghana. His journey first leads him to Germany to gain relevant work experience.

My name is Andrew, I am 37 years old and come from the small town of Agona Nkwanta. In 2017, I graduated as SAP Certified Application Associate and worked for five years as an IT consultant in Ghana. In 2023, I decided to deepen my knowledge, but my opportunities were limited as there are only a few SAP projects in Ghana.

In September 2023, my brother told me about career opportunities for IT professionals in Germany and about the Ghanaian-European Center for Jobs, Migration and Development (GEC), which offers information and advice on employment opportunities in Germany. I first informed myself about the center on the website startfinder.de and booked an advisory appointment.

Targeted advice and support

At the centre, I received information about job opportunities in the IT sector in Germany and about the job portal of the Federal Employment Agency (BA). The GEC referred me to a German language course at the Goethe Institut in Accra and supported me with the visa application and the certificate recognition process in Germany.

The German Embassy invited me for a visa interview in February 2024. I presented SAP job offers on the BA job portal as proof of the demand for my skills. My application was approved and I traveled to Germany in March 2024.

Dream of opening a consulting firm In Ghana

After my arrival in March, I immediately started applying for jobs. I have already received the first invitations to job interviews. My goal is to gain as much experience as possible during my stay in Germany, as I plan to establish a local SAP consulting firm in Ghana one day.
