Kosovars face huge challenges when they return to their home country from Germany or other countries. Advisors at the German Information Centre for Migration, Vocational Training and Career (DIMAK) in Pristina support them with sustainable reintegration and help them to get ahead in everyday life. The advice sessions and local services are provided as part of the "Returning to New Opportunities" programme run by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
An advice session starts with the background of the person seeking advice – their profile and their aims. What kind of work would they like to do in Kosovo? The DIMAK team uses an initial conversation to gain an overview of the information and support that returnees need. They also refer them to partner organisations depending on individual circumstances.
Regular progress updates
The team includes a female advisor, three male advisors and a coordinator. They are always available to deal with the concerns of both returnees as well as locals. They provide you with regular progress updates during the advisory process, and then you jointly discuss the way forward.
Advisor Granit Brajshori explains that the DIMAK services are split into in four areas: employment promotion and career guidance, legal migration, reintegration and psychosocial support. Every returnee can take advantage of DIMAK services. All these services are free of charge. “I’m motivated by the commitment shown by people who come to us”, says Brajshori. “The team and I can help them achieve their goals and ensure they can reintegrate well back in Kosovo.”
