Fiza’s journey: New opportunities through skill development

After finishing her higher secondary education, Fiza was struggling to find a job. Looking for guidance, she turned to the Pakistan-German Facilitation and Reintegration Centre (PGFRC). With the support and training she received, Fiza is now working at a renowned university in Pakistan as a front desk officer.

My name is Fiza, a 24-year-old residing in Faisalabad. After finishing my higher secondary education, I had difficulties finding a job. I heard a lot of good things about the hospitality industry abroad, but I didn’t know how to get there. One day, a friend told me about the Pakistan-German Facilitation and Reintegration Centre (PGFRC). I decided to arrange a counselling appointment.

Front Desk Officer Training

At the centre, I underwent detailed counselling and was introduced to a Front Desk Officer training at the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM). The training at the ITHM Institute was more than I expected. I learnt how to process bookings, communicate clearly and politely and deal with difficult situations without getting stressed. Part of the training was also dealing with computer systems for check-in and check-out. I felt my confidence growing day by day.

In addition to the training, I also participated in an information session of the PGFRC on safe and regular migration to Germany, the European Union, and the Gulf states. These sessions opened my eyes to the possibilities that lay beyond Pakistan and how to pursue them.

Career opportunities

I landed job offers from two big organizations in Pakistan. I chose to work for a renowned university in Faisalabad as a front desk officer. Now equipped with a professional certificate, I am actively applying for suitable job opportunities abroad. To further increase my chances, I am currently pursuing a bachelors’ degree in English via distance learning.
